I bet you're dying to get on track G. - .RJ - 09-21-2004 Maengelito Wrote:hopefully i'll be there driving to show dave my left foot trail braking skills in 6, biotch! Braking for 6 is overrated.... - damnit458 - 09-21-2004 Yeah Id also like to work? Ive never been to a track, or worked on one period, but id love to start now. I dunno, assuming there is enough spots that is. - Mike - 09-21-2004 .RJ Wrote:Maengelito Wrote:hopefully i'll be there driving to show dave my left foot trail braking skills in 6, biotch! Braking? Yes. Settling the car? No. I give the brake one quick punch, makes a world of difference. - Chris - 09-21-2004 MichaelJComputer Wrote:.RJ Wrote:Maengelito Wrote:hopefully i'll be there driving to show dave my left foot trail braking skills in 6, biotch! yeah I def. just tapped the brakes once the car was straight and settled. that was the one turn my tires made the most noise at, especially if I didn't hit the brakes enough. - .RJ - 09-21-2004 MichaelJComputer Wrote:Braking? Try doing it with the left foot... just brush the pedal as you're turning in and be ready to do some countersteering

I can def take it faster, I wasn't NEEDING to track all the way out despite flat footing after the brake tap. That could get me the extra speed I need to track all the way out in 9 too, as opposed to driving the extra 2 or 3 feet. - Evan - 09-21-2004 Lift, not brake. Also, most people turn in too late for 6. There is more grip slightly early occasionally I will brake, but after turn-in to rotate the car - Mike - 09-21-2004 i turn in very early, and from a little left of center-track. most people seem to turn in late and from far track left. - white_2kgt - 09-21-2004 Evan Wrote:Lift, not brake. ha, this coming from a miata driver! I have to give a quick stab, set the front tires, then turn and floor it. Otherwise I go in way to hot. -chad - .RJ - 09-21-2004 Ha, this coming from a group 2 driver.... ![]() As you progress many of the things that are tought on track/in classroom are not necessarily the fast way to get around the track. - John - 09-21-2004 There is also a big difference in how you approach certain turns (namely that one) in a FWD v. RWD car, and a light car v. a heavy car. I have also noticed that R-compounds require different inputs into many turns as well. - white_2kgt - 09-21-2004 .RJ Wrote:Ha, this coming from a group 2 driver.... I tried what you suggested. I just didn't feel comfortable trying to fight the car back into position for turn 5. Frankly, lifting there w/o brakes, scared the living shit out of me , and probably any group 1 driver reading this and thinking about trying it lol--chad - Chris - 09-21-2004 my instructor told me to get the right tires on the gators and the left ones on the cement patch in 6. That seemed to grip better - CaptainHenreh - 09-21-2004 I'd like to work. Julie might too, I think it's "our" weekend off. We'll have to check. - .RJ - 09-21-2004 white_2kgt Wrote:Frankly, lifting there w/o brakes, scared the living shit out of me Then you probably did it right
- Mike - 09-21-2004 I was talking to Chris (Apocalypse on HT, 944 racer) over lunch yesterday and he told me about some tips one of their top drivers, Russ Franklin, had given him. Turn 4 - "You'll know you're hitting it right when you have to scream every time through just to maintain your composure." Turn 10 - "When you turn in you have to think you're going too fast, by the apex you should be certain you're going off, and by the time you track out far on the rumbles the car will stick and you'll get through it." - white_2kgt - 09-21-2004 when's reg open for this piece? I think I found my brake problem and want to try SP again! you guys still need workers? Christina's gonna want to do T&S. --c - Maengelito - 09-21-2004 Evan Wrote:Lift, not brake. ie: left foot trail brake? - .RJ - 09-21-2004 Left foot trailbrake, stay on the gas |
