Re: The Official Grand Tour Discussion Thread - SPOILER WARN - rherold9 - 11-18-2016 Alright alright DJ. We get it you could be a better stig than old NASCAR man. We get it you could be a better stig than old NASCAR man.I don't think you guys realize. This dude is a "nobody". He wasn't even the Nascar people think about. He was in the truck series I believe and his prime was a good qualifying for the Daytona 500 once. Granted, he was a pretty good Truck series driver, that doesn't really give him much creditability as a benchmark driver for hyper cars. We had to club over at my house today to watch it and we all had a WTF moment about the track. How can anyone think that's a good track? I'm honestly concerned for when someone goes off at speed. I feel like they could cut a lot of fluff out and it'd be okay. Only time will tell. The intro was fantastic, I loved the music and the cinematography. Very good way to reinforce the "we're back together" vibe. Loved the M2 as a car, thought Ameristig was awful and needed to keep his mouth shut. Their track looks... weird. Doesn't seem like a great place to really be pushing a car or designed to even prove much. Maybe we'll be proven wrong. The fact that they have zero runoff in a lot of spots is "thrilling" but also makes me concerned - there have been plenty of offs in the past where things have turned out okay because of the big field in which one can spin around (Clarkson in the E82 135i, anyone?). This, less so. Didn't know what to make of the celebrity thing or the military thing, both little mini-segments went on wayyyy too long and felt very forced. Hopefully that was their way of saying they won't be having celebs on the show like they did on Top Gear? The endless drag races of the supercars got tiring to watch although I felt like there were a lot of very "real" moments where you could tell things weren't forced and were just happening like they did on TG. I think I share the same opinion as many others when I say that this was a good start, but I hope to see them really hit their stride once they start working with old shitbuckets that we can all relate to. Very eager to see where things will go, I definitely am glad they are back in whatever capacity! Re: The Official Grand Tour Discussion Thread - SPOILER WARN - jbails39 - 11-21-2016 I loved it despite the American stig thing and the Royal Air Force bit which I didn't really get. I laughed my ass off at the celebrity bit, but I may have been a little tipsy. The camera work was somehow even better than Top Gear's, which I thought had reached pinnacle cool. I don't even really care if the rest of the show turns to garbage so long as the camera work stays incredible. This show definitely feels more freewheeling than Top Gear, and with less legal constraints by a big producer like the BBC. The ripping on Ferrari for their pansy ass use of their cars was spot on. Re: The Official Grand Tour Discussion Thread - SPOILER WARN - WRXtranceformed - 11-22-2016 Finally got a chance to finish it last night and I concur with pretty much everyone. It felt a little forced but they definitely started to get into their groove. It will probably take a few episodes before they stop looking like try hards. I also loved the cinematography and CGI, and that death track seems like a terrible idea with these guys' histories. Is there really unexploded ordnance next to the track? Re: The Official Grand Tour Discussion Thread - SPOILER WARN - ScottyB - 11-22-2016 WRXtranceformed Wrote:Is there really unexploded ordnance next to the track? i think its just them charging up the drama factor. the whole track is meant to play off their "ambitious, but rubbish" style, IMO. my guess, is that they'll probably have an accident at some point and that will kick off the next, final track location or design. I understand they are trying to be meta and poke fun at themselves with the obviously scripted stuff, but that was too much. The repetition and terribly fake scenes killed it for me. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk Re: The Official Grand Tour Discussion Thread - SPOILER WARN - rherold9 - 11-26-2016 Yeah, it was a bit too much repetition. Some parts were good and funny but most of it was just too much. Oh well. Hopefully it gets better. Re: The Official Grand Tour Discussion Thread - SPOILER WARN - Senor_Taylor - 11-26-2016 I definitely think it needs to be made clear that this is not satisfactory. I'm not sure how far ahead these episodes are filmed though, so who knows how long it is until public opinion influences episodes? Re: The Official Grand Tour Discussion Thread - SPOILER WARN - Apoc - 11-26-2016 Pretty sure the whole season is in the can. Re: The Official Grand Tour Discussion Thread - SPOILER WARN - Mike - 11-26-2016 Pretty sure they know this one was bad and they might be fucked. Re: The Official Grand Tour Discussion Thread - SPOILER WARN - *insertusernamehere* - 11-27-2016 Yeeeeaaah episode 2 was... interesting. I feel like we were watching one of Clarksons wet dreams. Re: The Official Grand Tour Discussion Thread - SPOILER WARN - SlimKlim - 11-27-2016 I liked it. :dunno: Re: The Official Grand Tour Discussion Thread - SPOILER WARN - D_Eclipse9916 - 11-27-2016 Trash Re: The Official Grand Tour Discussion Thread - SPOILER WARN - Senor_Taylor - 11-27-2016 SlimKlim Wrote:I liked it. :dunno: You are wrong and your opinion is wrong. They may have kept the trio together and taken some of the old Top Gear crew with them, but sometimes getting more budget and looser reins makes the product worse instead of better. Could also be that Amazon is pushing them to make a show that appeals to a more broad audience or that Amazon management just has poor taste. Either way the new Top Gear improved towards the end of the first season, I'd expect the same here. |
