Rj you are right in the fact they are right there, however the plastic tends to wear over time as they are oil filters, not the hard housings that most imports are used to. Also, these can easily cross-thread and are typically done quite often when taken to a shop. I prefer a hard housing anyday, as I have dealt with 2 cars where jiffy lube, local mechanic, ruined the plastic and leaked.
On another note, my friend changed his mom's saturn's oil *canister type like the bmw* in my driveway without me home, yes without me there. Crossthreaded it and it spilled quarts of oil all over. MY mom therefore is bitchy about me doing fluids all the time now. That friend pissed me off to no end for pulling that shit.

Really? It was aluminum? What car did you have? Just wondering because I have never seen an aluminum housing for the BMW that wasnt aftermarket.
And yes Saturn uses them for a lot of their recent engines.
I really suck at threading plastic things. I tend to crossthread plastic because its so goddamn pliable. Metal slides when its right, plastic has resistance either way, Thats my excuse as to why I crossthread and im sticking to it!

Yes indeed my fellow MM car buddys, the 7 has landed! I picked the car up on Sunday (yesterday) w/ the help of fellow MMer, Ciro. After a little thinking, the owner let the car go for my offer of $1500! He was originally asking 3,000 and came down to 1800, I think I got a great deal on it. Ask Ryan T, just gave him a ride in the car a couple hours ago, he seemed to like it. It's really low and seems to handel really well! Should be a track whore for sure!

I definantely do like the car. Has a really nice stance, along with the adjustable suspension and the basically brand new azeni's. Short throw shifter is really tight and precise, or it seemed that way from running through the gears. Sounds like a cammed V8 at idle, I like it. Definantely a good buy.

Thanks guys! It's def a fun little car and a lot quicker than I expected! There is a little play in the steering b/c of the steering gear box, but once that is fixed (I have one w/ no play), the car should be a lot eaiser to drive, lol. I just hope I don't get pulled over b/c the car is a little loud, at idle or WOT

You can adjust the steering box - its easy, just take it over to Neil's shop and ask him to do it, probably wont cost much.

congrats on the 7 purchase. I'm sure you'll love it. When you say track whore, do you foresee some road course events in the near future, or sticking to autoX?
as for the oil filters, the new Avalon also has a canister type, as opposed to every other Toyota known to mankind having a normal filter (I don't know about all of Lexus).

Really?? The owner of the car, who is a very knowledgable guy, seemed to think that the steering gear box that is in the car now is messed up. He said that he adjusted it the best he could and that I would probably have to replace the entire steering gear box. If this is the case, he gave me another steering gear box which he says has no play in it. If all I have to do is get it adjusted, I would be relieved. And by the way, who's Neil? Thanks RJ!
To everyone else-yes the car is fun to drive, but getting used to no power steering is no fun, lol, at least when trying to park the car or driving at really low speeds!

Um, I was planning on autoxing the car, but with the different diff(owner called it a proxy something or another rear end. I think it is wear both wheels spin at the same time, kinda for drag racing) the owner put in and no power steering, I don't know how fun/fast the car will be. It seems like it might do better on a road course. So to answer your question, I really don't know yet. Once I get to know the car a little better and what it is capable w/ the mods on it, I'll decide.
