man, wtf is that?

i searched the net for headlights when i get the chance here at work...but man....

- HAULN-SS - 04-15-2008

That's probably upside down from it's proper orientation, right?

- Jake - 04-15-2008

Yeah it is. Let me fix that - the one below is correct. There's a hook thing on the back of it, so assuming you would line this piece up and push it down, then the pic below is oriented properly:

Jake you are officially the man.

From the pictures it looks like the damage is in the upper part of the suspension. The pic shows the Strut is way off. Most likely the strut is bent at the rod, im sure some other things are out of whack. As long as the frame or sub frame is not bent, you can just replace the suspension components and it'll most likely drive straight again.

When I first look at that it looks like this, 03-04 Chevy Cavalier:

Really sorry that happened dude. At least insurance is taking care of you. That is why I drove an 89 Buick Century when I was at JMU.

- Sijray21 - 04-15-2008

what confuses me is that there is clear sections on two different planes on the surface of that 'headlight' cover....would the light source(s) be passing through each open area?

- ScottyB - 04-15-2008

lets consider this a tail light also. that "bullseye" ringed peice looks exactly like something that would go over a tail light bulb to disperse the light everywhere instead of directionally like a headlight.

double edit: looking for a better pic now, google image is blowing hard

these came in various versions with black outlines on some:

Jake where on your car was contact made? Do your remember the cars parked in front and behind you? Was the person driving on the road and hit you?

The contact was made at the driver's front wheel. The force was enough to push it up onto the curb.

I'm not sure of the cars in front of and behind me. I kind of want to say I parked behind a Pontiac. Grand Am maybe? Dark color. One of the pix that I posted shows Crizap in front of me, and he definitely wasn't there when I parked.

Right now, there's a tan RAV4 behind me. I'm not sure if they were there when I parked or not. That plate is "RAV4 FVR"

I have no idea how I was hit. I was parked and didn't see any of this happen.

- Feersty - 04-15-2008

I wonder if it was someone making a U-turn in the middle of the road very quickly?

That mazda6 tail looks like the closest match so far. We need to find the one with the black housing.

- Sijray21 - 04-15-2008

i'm convinced it's the mazda 6 v6 tail:

I think y'all have cracked it (no pun intended...) - let's be on the lookout for busted up 6's around campus!

- HAULN-SS - 04-15-2008

I feel like the etching on the clear plastic piece would make this a rear light, like someone said. I've never seen etched front lights, usually those are clear, or Really etched (with angles and such, not circles)

- Jeff - 04-15-2008

No doubt, mazda 6 tail lamp. You can see the etching in this picture.

Well done guys-- it's a wonder what a bunch of car guys can come up with quickly. Will be on the lookout. Good luck with everything Jake

- Jake - 04-15-2008

Way to go all of you! So now we're looking for a Mazda6 with a busted tail light (and probably other rear end parts). Thanks so much for your help so far, everyone!

- .RJ - 04-15-2008

I bet if all of MM canvassed the area you'd find that thing in an hour.

Ready.... GO!

- flintster55 - 04-15-2008

Haha yea that is true. I'm thinking we can find it within a day or so hopefully
