Re: Project XJ - Jeff - 09-02-2009

Find me a $55 safari rack that uses the stock rails and doesn't look like shit and I will smooch your ballz.

Got hatch lift supports on the way...$20

Re: Project XJ - JustinG - 09-02-2009

hey you asked.....if you want your shit to be ugly then by all means.

wtf. I just think it looks a little silly all by itself up there. I'm gonna try to build my own rack using that tire carrier as the main support. Using chain link fence gate frames...I think it will be cool. I'll post pics as it plays out.

Re: Project XJ - JustinG - 09-02-2009

jeff, im completely surprised right now, albeit awfully early, but i do sense that this project may not die a fiery fiery death like your previous attempts. Good Work

Re: Project XJ - Jeff - 09-03-2009

Well...my back-up lights were not working. This is apparently due to a common problem with the transmission's range sensor. This sensor has detents that inform the TCM of the gear status of the automatic transmission. So, I decided to attempt "the easy fix" of taking it out and cleaning it. This 99% of the time fixes the problem according to gurus. So I got it in the air to find that it is kinda a bitch to get to. Got it unbolted and unplugged but could not get it off the shifter shaft. Long story short I busted the damn thing. My cost is $249 from mopar. Advance has it for $239. So the Jeep is down until I find a used one for about three-fiddy...

FAIL :bootyshake:

Re: Project XJ - Ryan T - 09-04-2009

I think I have some extended bumpstops laying in one of my toolbags at the house. I'll check when I get home tonight and if I still have them your welcome to them.

Re: Project XJ - Jeff - 09-04-2009

Cool! I'm not sure they will fit a 97+ but its worth a look.

Re: Project XJ - Jeff - 09-05-2009

Sensor is on the way! $30 shipped. Forums are the best way to get what you need...getting in with a good community is key.

Next on the list
E-brake handle (one I got was for the wrong year!!)
Turn signal switch
Fuel tank skid

Re: Project XJ - Jeff - 09-08-2009

Sensor should be here today or tomorrow. So thats good.

Just bought off ebay-
Cruise control switches $20.99
Turn signal switch - $14.99
Fuel pump assembly (used)- $38.00

Haha! Tru. Dats just how we roll in da woodstock hood negroz. Just had some broke shit to fix. Hopefully my cruise will work all the time now...and my back turn signals won't look like 4-ways. :dunno:

TRS is here! Already rebuilt it and gonna toss it in tonight then I will be back on the road!

Re: Project XJ - HAULN-SS - 09-08-2009

Ah..you have the sporadic cruise too? I wasnt sure if that was just me or not, or a vacuum leak or something. It seems like literally I can just randomly hit it sometimes and it will work, cut the car off, get back in, and get nothing.

Re: Project XJ - Jeff - 09-09-2009

Freakin cruise has worked all day today! SOB! Well, I'll see how long this lasts. Does your green "cruise" light come on or stay off? When mine does it the might stays off.

Re: Project XJ - HAULN-SS - 09-09-2009

If the light comes on, it works every time. Whenever its not working, I don't get a light or anything. It's really, really finnicky. It probably works 60% of the time, and when it is working, it seems like it will work fine, until I cut the car off and restart it after getting gas or something.

Re: Project XJ - Jeff - 09-14-2009

Re: Project XJ - ScottyB - 09-14-2009

looks straight ballin with the circle fogs on the front

Re: Project XJ - Mike - 09-14-2009

you should paint them. i think rob has a good guide on here somewhere...

Re: Project XJ - Jeff - 09-15-2009

Installed new fuel pump. Long crank time issue gone!

As I am pulling into my driveway last night after installing the pump...Check Engine Light. Code 45: Test Transmission Range sensor. Turns out this morning on the scan tool, gear 1-2 does not show up when the stick is in that position, it shows as park neutral. So I need to adjust the switch. Bullshit.

Re: Project XJ - Jeff - 09-17-2009

Started a definitive money spent list on the main page, first post. Please check that out if you are interested in what I am spending on this project. Approaching $400... But at least everything is ironed out at this point. EVERYTHING works and works well at this point.

Well I got started on another mod last night. This is my "Recovery Hitch" project. Fairly simple concept, put some big ass recovery points on my hitch before I install it on the Jeep. Tractor supply provided the 15,000lb D-rings for $7.99 each. Great deal considering what most people sell a hitch D-ring for...and then you only have one hitch point. I know how you guys love pics. So here's the pics and progress, more to come tonight.

As it started
[Image: DSC02796.jpg]

The offending wiring 'cage.' This is where the 7-point wiring plug would go. I have never seen a trailer that took a 7-pin I would want to pull with a Cherokee, so a 4-pin for me. So not only do I not need this, but it is in the way of my progress!

That's better!

All smoothed out. Gonna fill that little gouge with weld and re-grind it.

Had to remove this sticker with a razor blade.

MOCK UP PICS!

More pics once it is welded and painted! Moving right along.
