Did you cut them off or something?

I've rearranged mirrors before...

No, absolutely not, why would you think that? I was in the lane to the right of the HOV lane, they(2 sportbikes) were riding very erractically behind me, weaving in and out of traffic, riding on the shoulder. I maintained my lane and drove straight. He was behind me and swerved to the right and bent it backwards. Not sure where the impact on his bike was though, perhaps his handle grip, or mirror?, but there was what looked like tire contact on my right rear bumper.

He got close enough to touch your bumper? You should have slammed on your brakes and watch that idiot fly.

Thats usually the only thing that provokes relocation/removal of mirrors....

But you were going through Atlanta, so there are no rules. Maybe they were trying to steal your gas :dunno:

the contact was on the side of his bumper to clarify. it was like the guy just rode up the side of the car. he was coveting Feersty's focus!

the rubber came off with an eraser and windex (ha!) but the mirror was toast...mount was snapped. but thats what duct tape is for.

atlanta -- land of uppity squids

I finally got gas with a few miles to spare. The local radio stations were posting up gas stations on their websites that callers said had gas. So I rolled out there, cut in line and filled up with 87 octane Sad I'll be fine for one tank.

- Feersty - 09-25-2008

Damn, I wonder why the localized craziness there. Maybe rumors have been perpetuated out of proportion.

- Ginger - 09-25-2008

The southeast turns itself into a cauldron of extra dumb every hurricane season... it's almost like they forget that it's an annual event.

- Feersty - 09-26-2008

This is getting ridiculous:

they're saying we won't have the gas deliveries back to normal until the 13th. what kills me is that nobody around here is changing their driving habits at all. flying away from lights, doing 80 on the interstate, everyone bitches and then reverts back to driving like a fool.

let 'em run dry. nothing will change.

- WRXtranceformed - 09-29-2008

Hah, some local gas stations were saying that people were continuing to pump even after the gas was gone... they were pumping basically water and sludge into their engines. I'm heading up to Statesville tomorrow for a proposal, hopefully they'll have some 93 octane up there so I can dilute this piss gas that's in it now.

You know, that's something that's bothered me a bit over the last year or so. Last thought about it when we went to Charlottesville and were the slowest car on the highway. Seems that very few have changed their habits at all.

Not that I'm surprised, but it's kind of sad. The fuel economy difference between 65 and 75+ is pretty easy to see in most vehicles. And of course there are easy improvements to make around town too. I guess most of it is just people not caring and being creatures of habit, because I think it's pretty easy for even stupid people to understand. And every week there's another, same-old-stuff-but-presented-like-it's-news article about how to save gas.

yeah its really apparent in my car for some reason. i was just thinking about it and i can't remember the last time i've been over 75, and on a daily basis almost never pass 70. i'm always watching my mirrors because of this!

of course, they tell you this tip in every gas saving article there is, just like you mentioned.

ha, thats's good for the resale! (thinking of tommy boy and the M&M's)

hope you find some man. finding 93 around here is like fishing for freaking mermaids.

not that I like high gas prices but I don't openly complain about them too much because I know I don't really drive very slowly, I take trips I probably don't need to take and drive a car that doesn't do much for conservation. To me, its worth it to sacrifice that ~3mpg or so to not be that slow guy in everyone's way. I dont feel like I drive recklessly 98% of the time but I do get very agitated at people who drive slow clogging things up. So if I use up a bit more fuel but save my sanity in the meantime, I feel like its a fair trade off.

see, that's fine. If all these people are like, screw it, I don't care about gas prices, then more power to 'em. But I've got to believe that some sizable percentage of these people that are still speeding around and racing stoplight to stoplight also can't stop whining to their friends/coworkers about how much it costs them and are going to vote for Obama 'cause he's going to fix it.

- WRXtranceformed - 09-29-2008

I don't care about the price of gas, I care about not being able to find it when I need it haha

- Ginger - 09-29-2008

I'm just cruious - is there some kind of "gouging" legislation active down there? In the natural course of things, the price of it should have rocketed - but you all should still actually have gas.... which makes me inclined to believed that some body in politics is actively keeping the price down.

- WRXtranceformed - 09-29-2008

Yes, I can't remember who it was but the local judicial bodies and governments are actively prosecuting gas stations that had abnormally large gas price spikes. It's been all over the news because it has happened in several locations.

God forbid people be voluntarily willing to pay however much their wallet will accept in order to have access to the resource.

I can't believe this is America.

It's in the govt's best interest to look out for the people when a necessity (in 21st century America, I would argue gas is a necessity to most people) becomes too scarce or expensive to the people to afford. When looking at overthrown governments, the "let them eat cake" attitude doesn't work too well, so you better believe the gov't will try to step in to regulate prices on gas.

EDIT: At a certain point "people be voluntarily willing to pay however much their wallet will accept in order to have access to the resource." won't really work if the resource is a necessity. Once the number of have-nots greatly outnumbers the haves, shit hits the fan. Given, $4 gas doesn't get anywhere close to this, but I could see +$10-20/gal (given no cheaper energy alternative) causing such a strain on food prices, housing markets and jobs that things could actually get violently bad in the country.

How's that working out in Charlotte and Nashville?
