Don't know how you have your phone set up, but t3h Googles automatically puts everything back on my phone.

Same here. All my contacts, calendar, and apps. Sully are you sure you aren't just doing it wrong?

I haven't done it in a while but it would only do paid apps and does it keep pictures? My home screen layouts?

Yea Rex, I do all of it wrong :dunno:

Look into nokia. My winphone is awesome, and the hardware is really good quality so far. The apps, if you need them will come. I really like having my work and home email on the same phone, and being able to open up Office docs with no problems.
+1, my phone has been the best phone I have had since, well, my last Nokia. Dropped it several times and it's rock solid. Have probably only needed to restart it maybe three times and the battery life has been fantastic.

Apps will come i'm sure, only thing it's missing that I want is Sonos, Citibank and HBOGO.

As Jake mentioned the s3s batt life is meh, and if I use my phone as a phone throughout the day I'm at like 20% by 5pm. So an extended battery or battery case was in order. I ordered the Incipio offgrid case. Went through 3 of them due to them effecting call quality when the case was on and charging. So I got a refund.

Got this in today. Anker 4400mah extended batt. $22 <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009GVG8FA/ref=pe_385040_30332190_pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_ST1_dp_1">http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009GVG8FA/ref ... 1_ST1_dp_1</a><!-- m -->

Stock s3 batt is 2100mah.

I will see how well it does but the nerd forums rave about this and the gorilla gadgets 4500mah battery. People are getting up to 2 days on a charge with normal use.

Also got this since I like a sturdy case to go with my new batt.

The battery and case only added about 1/8 in over my ballistic case. So its a pretty good deal. The added weight is nice too.

[Image: 8epavymu.jpg]

Naked thickness is increased by about a 1/4 in, almost doubling the phones thickness. Making the phone about 1/2 in thick. Kinda beefy, but I don't rock skinny jeans so no big deal. Ill take it for double the usage time.

How old is your OG battery? It seems at about a year they really hit the shitter.

Jake Wrote:This new "Moto X" looks intriguing, although the specs are lesser than my work S3. I'm also intrigued by the HTC One, although that's got a skin over top of Android.

If I get an Android phone next, I don't want any TouchWiz or Sense or whatever. Just straight-up Android. On good hardware that isn't flimsy. With good battery life. So basically, not an S3. I don't know why people like this stupid thing. It's too big, physically, and the battery life sucks. The back casing is micro-thin and so is the screen. It feels like a toy compared to my iPhone.

So. Think I'll be able to find the mythical Android phone when the time comes? Or should I just keep drinking the Kool-Aid since it's been good to me since 2007?

HTC One is probably the phone for you. Solid aluminum build, not as big as an S4, and sense is a light skin. When I had an HTC phone, I thought it was actually better and more polished than stock android.
And frankly after having 2 nexus devices that get the newest updates right away, Im quite unimpressed with "stock" android. Google's releases are never as polished as they should be, there is always something major like bluetooth thats broken/buggy, and battery life seems to get slightly worse with every release.

If youre commited to stock android, your only real options are the Nexus line or paying full monty for a Google Play Edition phone. Nexus 4 is a great phone, glass construction like the iphone, great screen, ive been using one since december. Nexus 5 should be announced in october.

Seconded on the Nexus 4. The wife bought one to replace her stolen iPhone and has never looked back. Not as dazzling as the HTC One and S4 but for half the price it's definitely not half the phone. Good way to try out Android at low risk.

Got the phone in November, so 9 months.

While on the topic of battery life, I have found the following actually really helpful:

he is right on keeping the battery cool and not completely discharging it, but he is wrong on topping it off.
you should not top off frequently, keeping your battery at 100% is almost as bad as letting it deplete to to 0%
charging your phone to 90% doubles the amount of discharge cycles of your battery.

for some good, geeky battery science, here:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries">http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/arti ... _batteries</a><!-- m -->

ive requested several times from google to allow battery voltage in the android API, so I could write an app that would allow you to set a maxium charging voltage (or %) to maximize battery lifetime

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Ken - 08-19-2013

it does address it here, "And to complicate matters a little further your battery doesn't particularly like being all the way full either" but not in detail like the link you provided; much better, thanks!

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 08-26-2013

Is this the problem it appears to be, or is it just specific apps that are broken? IOW, can I still play videos I have on my hard drive?

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/08/26/chromecast-update-breaks-local-media-streaming-in-apps/">http://www.engadget.com/2013/08/26/chro ... g-in-apps/</a><!-- m -->

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Evan - 08-26-2013

yes, problem.
but not surprising, given Google's apple-esque heavy hand of control lately.

you might still be able to stream local content via a chrome tab (my experience is that its very choppy), but via any kind of app or non approved service is no bueno

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - WRXtranceformed - 08-26-2013

FINALLY SWITCHING from Sprint in a few weeks!! Probably headed toward Verizon unless there's a really good reason for AT&T (had a bad experience with them and their "internet service"). Anyone on Verizon recommend a specific phone other than an iPhone? I am hoping they come out with the S4 active by then but that might be wishful thinking.

edit: double post

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - WRXtranceformed - 08-27-2013

Nice that looks solid, and i think that is the exact day my Sprint contract expires. I was reading a lot of good reviews on the Droid Maxx, both performance and battery life which is super important due to travel schedule. Anyone have experience thoughts on that one?

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Evan - 08-27-2013

not a bad phone, but the outdated specs and high price turn me off to it. if battery life is all that matters though, its as good as it gets.
