,that place sucked ass and everyone thought it was so good. I went once with Jake and David, and got the famed cheese steak. The dominicks carts in front of Lowe's had better cheese steaks than Dave's. (I'm talking Dominic's before they revamped and do $5 foot longs on shitty bread now)

End of an Era.
Although I was in there a few months ago, I guess the day of the car show, with Lauren and her little brother and my food was pretty terrible and most of the restaurant was empty, save for a group of runners and a handful of kids with their parents up on the roof. Had I known it was going to be my last time ever at Dave's I would've gotten a gyro instead of that stupid pizza.
I never lurked around the actual restaurant too much because I was under 21 the whole time I was in school, and generally too high strung to do the ID-under-the-table thing, but I stumbled into Dave's Express for a 3 AM gyro more times than I can... well, remember.

Place was delicious, beer was cheap. Service was absolutely horrible. I will miss the steak and cheese, Taverna burger and fries, and the $3 natty pitchers.
But if El Charro shuts down.....I will end my life.

And really, the Express location is more like how it all started, not the fancy pants downtown location. I loved coming into Dave's when it used to be at the top of Port Republic at like 3:30 in the morning.

It's closed now. Spoke with someone who worked there. Yesterday was the last day it was open.

In the last year or so El Charro's has added 2 more locations. The one at 865 and one in Bridgewater. They aren't likely to go out of business because they are f'real always busy. On a Friday night, you seriously cannot get a seat at the one in B'water. So I wouln't fret to much about that.

Ahhh shots and happy hour mixed drinks at Bdubs before class on Thursdays :lol:
I miss JMU. I heard the talent (girls) there is way worse now. Making it harder to get in did the hot girls in.
Dave's was very below average but I would miss it.

That was not an issue from '09-'11. Although I did have a couple dozen moments where I'd have to turn and look at someone after they asked a question in class, and just wonder how they got into the damn school in the first place. :lol:

Nice, I saw a couple girls in Myrtle Beach with Jmaddy shirts on that were definitely not representative of the JMU I remember. My brother and his JMU friends confirmed the decline over the last few years too :lol:

You guys can hate on the service at the main location all you want, or the fries, or the cheesesteak (anyone can make that). But their souvlaki (it IS a greek place after all...) was and still is the best I've ever had, as were the chips, as is the tzatziki sauce, which is really what made it all. Probably had MSG in it for all I know. :dunno:
It is also the coolest gas station. Loud music, chill staff that appears to not hate life, and ethanol free gas.
I think Harisonburg should consider Express for landmark status.
I, for one, will no longer bother going out of my way to stop there for gas.

the express site was the best when i was living in sunchase. i never really set foot in the main restaurant downtown, but damn if their gyro's weren't freakishly good.
shame if bdubz moves out. hated going in there thanks to a wall of broski's standing at the bar with nothing to do, but for pickup it didn't get any more prime if you lived on the quad.

meh. The times I've had it have been terrible and very over priced. Meat was charred, and not in a good way.

I used to go to bdubs every Tuesday after work with my roommates, and always asked for them wet and they almost always came out looking like they had been dry rubbed (Parm Garlic sauce) If you ask for extra sauce afterwards, they try to charge you. Not to mention, the take service is shit. Plus I always seemed to get the messed up wings from the deformed chickens or some shit and I would usually feel like complete shit the entire day afterwards (which is probably just my bitch stomach) but I wouldn't mind seeing them go under and maybe reopen with some different management or something.
The sauce problem seems to be most bdubs with the parm garlic sauce for some reason. They don't want to give that shit up.
