Is anyone here into touring bikes? We traded in a 2010 Goldwing Level 2 (no I am not trying to sell it, already did that) just other other day and I have to say I was impressed by it. I guess I like gadgets and all the gadgets and little hidden compartments and features were really cool. This thing had nav, heated everything (no dick warmer), 6 cyl engine, electric reverse, just loaded. Honda dealer that bought it from me said it had everything but ABS and airbags (I was like, LOL!). Only thing I don't get is the price. He paid over $25,000 for this MOTORCYCLE...WTF. With the matching trailer the total was nearly $31,000. I didn't get nearly that for it but I made my cash so whatever. I just can't imagine spending that much money on something that is so close to being a car. Wasn't an old person either, he was in his 30's. Guy that bought it from me originally sold it to the customer. He said of him he wasn't the typical "wing buyer." If I was going to do the motorcycle thing....it was nice. Anne hopped on the back seat and I got on the front, she says "If I trusted you more this could be fun." :dunno: :bootyshake:

With my only experience being from a full blown race postured sport bike, I can say it absolutely sucks for any highway or long trips(other than like long mountain trips with nothing but curves). I have often thought about moving to a more relaxed postured bike but with that said, I don't think it would be a goldwing.
My s2000 was way less than $25k and I think ID rather have that over a gold wing. I would want something with comfortable posture, but still small enough to throw around (yea I know gw can be thrown around by good riders) but I wouldn't want anything so big And closed off. Like I would like an attachable but easily removable windscreen so I could have the option for long trips but why have a motorcycle that is so closed off around you...And so expensive. My s2000 has AbS, AC, and airbags for a lot less money.

Harley.....$39k. Yea, no. If I want to be comfortable and cruise open air for 40k, I will buy a drop top.

I'm with you, don't get the big bikes. Especially when they go trike. Just get a damn convertable already! :dunno:
$10k gets you pretty much any bike you could want IMHO. For some highway, long trip, lots of luggage action, you can get a brand new v-strom.
The only thing I can imagine that keeps people buying harleys and wings is that the resale value is high and there's lots of clubs to hang out with.

I honesty think those are the people who want to be "riders" for the sake of being riders. So they can go to the office Monday and say "yea, the wife and took the bike down to(insert place)". Idk, I really don't understand trikes or spyders but to each is own. I would take an s2000, miata, or any other fun little roadster over bikes like those.

FWIW my parents were harley riders before it was cool. They still have their bikes, but dad's is an '81 FLH and what I don't get is why anyone would buy a new model. Sure his doesnt have all of those trickeries on it, but when you get right down to it, it's still a 1300cc cruiser, and he didn't pay anywhere near even 10k for it. I didnt realize they have gotten so high. I can remember back in the day some people had some 15 - 20k bikes and that was super expensive. They've had a bunch of bikes over the years, and have always sold higher than they bought.

we have a couple of those guys that ride into the office (on nice days). Last year they used to be shocked that i would ride my R6 in to the office in just about any weather... now they are giving me shit becasue i dont want to rock out on the 75 mile commute (that starts at 430am).
big bikes make "two up" road trips a breeze. my dad rides his old yamaha touring bike all year long but lives to throw my mom on the back for a weekend through the back roads of Wva. stuff a backpack full of clothes in the staddle bag and roll out to anywhere. He is actually looking for a smaller bike for every day riding because his current bike is "too big" for his 7 mile commute.
Honda and HD both have a lot of aftermarket (or OEM) to help custimize the bikes too... i think that helps them.
