How to remove gear oil spilled in bed? - Senor_Taylor - 02-04-2014

Hey guys! I was changing my diff oil out when Sam called me needing a jump. I finished up and threw the drain jug in the bed. Didn't think about it.

It turned over and spilled everywhere coating my entire bed with 1/2 an inch of oil. I spent like 20 minutes pressure washing it and it just won't come out.

I can't stand the smell. You can smell it from like 10 feet away from my truck and it's a mess. I can't put anything back there now.

What the hell will get rid of it? I can't use water because water just rolls off of the oil and it's like glued to my bedliner.

It's probably still flammable?

degreaser and lots of it. Start with simple green and the purple stuff. (separately of course)

you could try some oil dri, and some of the stuff used to get oil out of your driveway, let them soak then powerwash out.

Yea either degreaser or oil dry. Cat litter may work but it's really for absorbing large quantities. Might have actually been easier before spraying it with water.

Maybe a can of aerosol degreaser too

I seriously read the thread title and immediately thought "bed" like what's in your bedroom. Then I wondered why you had gear oil there. Then I read the thread.

The smell is what does it for me Wink

Seriously, what fluid smells worse? Maybe ATF and Gear oil can be tied.

From the replies on here and TacomaWorld, I'm feeling like some kitty litter, then some purple power should be good enough and not cost like $20.

Now I need to find somewhere to do this...
