Taylor Johnson running for Public Relations - Senor_Taylor - 04-21-2014

Hey guys! I've been told I can make up positions (in more professional terms) and I feel like this is the perfect position to run for. I'm good at talking, since I do it a lot, and I feel as though I have a few good connections I can always expand on when MM wants something. I love reaching out to new people and I REALLY REALLY want to get the word of MM out to the world, including JMU's campus. I'm pretty obsessed with MM, and I'm very excited that I joined as a freshmen and made so many friends already. Now I've got at least 3 more years of fun ahead! One more than a lot of people Big Grin

I really want to focus on more people knowing about MM. I have quite a few ideas like working on some shirts, which I've made a few designs, that say "Madison Motorsports - JMU Driver's club" or something similar. Just like the other club shirts. No one knows we're a club, and we need to change that. I want a bigger/better presence at Student Org night so freshmen know to look forward to joining us.

I see that MM doesn't really act as a club as much other clubs do, and I want to work on getting MM to feel like one large group of friends instead of a few cliques. I want new members to feel very welcome and not have to FORCE themselves into social situations within the club. We all should reach out to new members and take them under our wings. Maybe even have a Big-Little system. There's a reason clubs have them, and to such a great success. I'd HAPPILY have a little freshmen I drove around to all of our stuff and helped with anything he needed. Kinda like Sam, Ryan, and Chris did for me this year.

I also am opening my house in Copper for MM events next year. I want to have more club dinners, Maybe even a thanksgiving event like CCVT did. I can always get a hookup on some bulk, discounted food from Cracker Barrel, but I'm willing to cook, with some help.

I also want to make the car show even bigger and next year. I'm a stickler for planning ahead and I really want to be in an official position to help next year. As always, I'll be the guy with the truck to haul stuff around. I'm sure I can get even more stuff donated for raffles, and hopefully draw a bigger offroad crowd next year too. I can definitely get us the RTI ramp again, which was awesome.

I'm sure there are tons more I can/should say, but I'm rushing to get this typed before heading to work, so I'll answer any questions y'all can throw at me!

VOTE FOR PED-- TAYLOR!

This isn't a made up position. It's one of the four officer roles of MM. I believe it is Chris Lacey this year.

Yeah, the technical term is "PR/Secretary" -- that said, rock on dude. I'll think of some actual questions to ask when I'm not at work.

You have lot of good idea. I like it big boi. But for this one maybe you can influence the alumni to schedule their turducken in line with when students are not going home that way we all can go there. Or hell better yet...TWO DINNERS!!

When you say secretary, it sounds like I'll have paperwork. Big Grin

Just an FYI these titles don't mean too too much. We work as a team. Where one person is slacking we all pick up. So sometimes you may have paperwork, sometimes making a phone call, sometimes sending out an email. Best of luck in your campaign sir Smile

Thank you. I'll fill in for whatever ass-kickin, shit-gettin-done-n', and do-work'n that needs to be done.

Re: Taylor Johnson running for Public Relations - rherold9 - 04-23-2014

I actually talked to Kaan this past Saturday when I was over his place about a bunch of MM stuff. Turducken he said will try to be planned not around when people are leaving/getting back from Thanksgiving Break

Great ideas Taylor. I have had similar ones as well we have talked about most of these things together actually. We need to actually plan things in advance

Re: Taylor Johnson running for Public Relations - Senor_Taylor - 04-23-2014

We'll have to make sure we have lunch together next semester too to plan Big Grin

THIS!

If you guys want Alumni involvement/help we need to know months in advance. Just as an example....every weekend for the next 2 months is booked for me.

I love this talk of advanced planning.

Re: Taylor Johnson running for Public Relations - Jewels - 04-24-2014

I'm with Justin on this one. I can tell you what I'm doing most weekends through like October. So if you can plan ahead, we can support your stuff. Simple as that.

Re: Taylor Johnson running for Public Relations - rherold9 - 04-24-2014

Yes I understand the need for planning ahead but when some people in the club complained I don't even remember if it was sarcasm or not or whatever when I set up way in advance for the cruise in February that turned out to be pretty solid was just annoying.

Yes, this. So much.

Some people just don't have as good of an understanding on how much your weekends can fill up once you graduate. Let the haters hate, and do more planning ahead. I thought that cruise was a great time and you had a huge turnout.

Re: Taylor Johnson running for Public Relations - Senor_Taylor - 04-24-2014

Trust me. Planning ahead is my main priority. I work most weekends and have to ask off in advance for anything MM related, so I feel the necessity. I'm pretty good at helping to plan stuff. I was President of the National Honor society in highschool ( lulz freshmen) and I helped set up every event for the year.

I am confused at what the harm is in knowing what is happening prior to the week before.

No idea. I like planning advance it is needed

Re: Taylor Johnson running for Public Relations - Senor_Taylor - 04-24-2014

No one really complained. They were just pointing out the fact it was planned ahead, which is unusual in MM

Hey, one of my best buds is the Philanthropy chair of the Engineering frat next year. We should get MM and them together for events. He said we could do "professional events" together. Like tours of places and stuff. Bowling nights and such.

We had some great ideas at the meet tonight. Next year, have older members be "mentors" to new members. Be there person for those select new people to come to when they need anything. Have any questions, need a ride, etc. The mentors will also personally remind the new members of upcoming events and will be a "friendly face" for them to be around during their first few events before they meet people. Us "mentors" will also be a gateway for new members to meet current members.
