TRAC IT - Chris - 01-03-2005 Well I finally finished my trailer and hitch project for winter break. The trailer arrived first and was simply a matter of assembling. I originally ordered a hitch from Draw Tite for a 2dr civic because there wasn't one for the del sol. This was a stronger model than the one I currently have because it attached to the outer frame rails. There were bolts that dropped down through the existing holes in the frame rails, but they were too long. I spent several hours attempting to install this one but eventually took it to a trailer place in town. He confirmed it was the wrong hitch and ordered the Rigid hitch I have now. This one attaches to the tow hook on the back of the car and then you must cut away part of teh lower bumper and drill through the rear bumper and hang it from there. Its rated at 100lbs on the tongue (weight directly down on the hitch- which is plenty for my purpose). The drilling was extremely hard and tons of crap kept falling on me. I wore eye protection but somehow still got a piece of dirt in my eye and woke up at 5am the next morning in extreme pain. It took 30 min to flush out, but I'm ok now... Today I did all the wiring for the brake, turn signals, and running lights. I thought this was going to be really confusing, but the wires simply spliced into the tail lights in the trunk and I can close the trunk lid down on the wires which connect to the trailer adapter. Here are some pics, it will allow me to transport my wheels, tools, and MM gear like the bbq bin and tent! Sorry for the huge size... don't know how to resize. ![]() The hitch- notice the cut away bumper. ![]() Check out the license plate! ![]() My dad and I cut this pressure treated ply wood to fit and added several tie down hooks for the wheels and gear. ![]() Some of the gear I'll have on the trailer. The wheels will be strapped down and I found an old bike lock that will actually fit through teh wheels so they are locked. ![]() Christmas gift. ![]() My dad's Christmas gift! We now have air tools (impact, air hammer, ratchet, and deep metric sockets) It also is great for tire inflating. - .RJ - 01-03-2005 looking good! - damnit458 - 01-03-2005 very nice chris! Sorry to hear bout the eye, but it looks good. - Mike - 01-03-2005 bwahhahaha nice! so nice that i want to rub my balls on it! - Sijray21 - 01-03-2005 that is awesome! at first when i checked out the pics i thought it was something that someone had already done and you were looking to do. Looks very professional! I like it! ...mmm...air tools.... - white_2kgt - 01-03-2005 I might suggest that you hook up the wires to the rear lights . Oh something I'm going to do for mine soon is adding some small lights on poles (like mini boat marker lights) so I can see where the trailer is while I'm driving at night. Once it gets dark I can't see the trailer behind me and I just like to be able to keep a check on it.--chad - JohnC - 01-03-2005 Looks awesome Chris... - Feersty - 01-03-2005 B00bies got the h00kup! - ScottyB - 01-03-2005 Chris that's awesome! i'm going to be all over a trailer like that in about a year or so, hopefully - white_2kgt - 01-03-2005 ScottyB Wrote:Chris that's awesome! i'm going to be all over a trailer like that in about a year or so, hopefully I can probably sell you mine by then, box and all. ![]() --chad - Myuki - 01-03-2005 nice... i've done the resizing thing before, can't remember right now :? , i'll get back to you on that - Feersty - 01-03-2005 To resize, open the picture in microsoft photo editor..... pixels= 800x600 - Mike - 01-03-2005 rob, i have a newfound respect for you. - ScottyB - 01-03-2005 white_2kgt Wrote:ScottyB Wrote:Chris that's awesome! i'm going to be all over a trailer like that in about a year or so, hopefully i'll definitely keep you in mind Chad, because that trailer is just what im lookin for - bassmangrammy - 01-04-2005 did you install that hitch yourself? - Chris - 01-04-2005 white_2kgt Wrote:I might suggest that you hook up the wires to the rear lights ah good idea... - Chris - 01-04-2005 ScottyB Wrote:Chris that's awesome! i'm going to be all over a trailer like that in about a year or so, hopefully Harbor Freight or Northern Tools has them for a decent price. I was going to see if you wanted to paint the plywood on the trailer black and then put to big yellow MM's on it!! My dad said to wait about 6 months for the pressure treated wood to dry out though... - Chris - 01-04-2005 Chad, I know you said to re-tighten all the bolts after its first use, but any other suggestions as far as driving with it or general use?? - bassmangrammy - 01-04-2005 Chris Wrote:BassmanGrammy Wrote:did you install that hitch yourself? I wish I had a time to read everything on the forum...ok...soo I can't read...haha. |
