What kind of math? Greek math. Continued fractions are how the greeks represented irrational numbers. that solution i posted ended up being correct.

if you were to write out [1,2,1,2,1,2...] it'd look like

1 + 1/(2+1/(1+1/(2+.....

well, in the abstract, you can use it to represent a computer program algorithm. in the real world, you can use it to represent a rational number..which is convenient for other calculations sometimes.

basically, you could use it to approximate irrational numbers for any sort of application..finding the perfect fifth in a music scale (the pythagoreans did this, since they thought numbers were perfect)...the more fractions you make, the closer the approximation is to the irrational number. (send n to infinity, and the number starts to converge)

There's a connection between chaos theory and continued fractions and the golden string of numbers (some variant of fibonacci sequence)
