e36 m3 euro motor FS - Nick325is - 12-19-2006 Just browsing ebay and I came across this http://cgi.ebay.com/BMW-E36-3-0-M3-Engi ... dZViewItem If this is in fact a legit auction it is one hell of a deal. That is the euro 320hp e36 motor. It would make for a different engine swap. If I had the money I would be all over this...in fact I do have that savings account  -Nick - CaptainHenreh - 12-19-2006 That *is* a pretty good deal. Especially considering it includes the harness and DME. If it stays under 2500, you should do it, Nick. - Mike - 12-19-2006 i was reading grm yesterdauy and a i had a weird urge to sell the hatch and play with an e30... - BLINGMW - 12-19-2006 I'm surprised he can offer ~$340 shipping to anywhere in the world. I've not looked it up recently, but it costs almost that much to ship an engine within this country.... (if anyone changes that to "BJ's sweet ass", and "play with myself", I officially saw it coming) Euro motor swaps are a bitch. - CaptainHenreh - 12-19-2006 Beej Wrote:Euro motor swaps are a bitch. Except for the brake booster/intake manifold clearance, how are euro swaps any worse than the garden variety? I'm genuinely curious, because I never even bothered to look at anyone's euro swap, because it was lightyears beyond what I was willing to pay for such a creature. - .RJ - 12-19-2006 http://roadrace-autox.com/bbs/forums/th ... =1&start=1 - Mike - 12-19-2006 318 w/ boost per grm? i do so love the I6, though. - CaptainHenreh - 12-19-2006 .RJ Wrote:http://roadrace-autox.com/bbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=2471&posts=1&start=1 http://www.grmotorsports.com/board/view ... 607#237607 Mike Wrote:318 w/ boost per grm? i do so love the I6, though. If you're willing to do the swap, I think it would be at least the same performance for probably a few bucks less. I mean, the DA Supercharger kit is $3,395.00 for the E36 kit, and the E30 kit is even more (due to having to replace the crank pulley with a hybrid vbelt/serpentine pully). I'm not saying it's a bad way to go if you already have a 91 318is, but you're A: Going to pay more for a 91 318is (they're pretty sought after) and B: going to spend more on the supercharger than an M50 costs. A 1500 dollar E30 + a 2000 dollar M50 will get you the same peformance, better reliability (IMHO) and probably better fuel economy (although that's a SWAG). The 318is Supercharged, on the other hand, will indeed be lighter. Just my $.02. - BLINGMW - 12-19-2006 CaptainHenreh Wrote:I'm not saying it's a bad way to go if you already have a 91 318is IMHO I think it's a pretty bad way to go. Unless you're going for unique points or something and/or just have $$ to burn. Heck a turbo m10 would be cheaper (and make more power) even if you paid someone else to do it, and so would an m50 swap. And if you're worried about weight from the m50 swap, the all alum 2.8 out of a later 90's car isn't that much harder to come by.... - CaptainHenreh - 12-19-2006 BLINGMW Wrote:CaptainHenreh Wrote:I'm not saying it's a bad way to go if you already have a 91 318is Well, some people are really "ZOMG SUPERCHARGER!" and don't really want a "one-off" kit. Not you or me or maybe even Mike. If I had and old school M10 E30, I'd think about turbocharging it. Although to be perfectly honest, if I hadn't gotten my M50 for so cheap, I would have crammed a big six in there. Wiring is a breeeeeeeeeeze! If anyone wanted mad, reliable horsepower in their E30 (and didn't care about A/C) I'd say M30 FTW. - Mike - 12-19-2006 i'm lost and don't feel like googling... i know a few of the bimmer motor codes, but not all. i'm starting a motor code list in the tech forum. - CaptainHenreh - 12-19-2006 Mike Wrote:i'm lost and don't feel like googling... i know a few of the bimmer motor codes, but not all. i'm starting a motor code list in the tech forum.I won't list the V8's. Four Cylinder: M10: 8V SOHC 4 banger, 318i, 2002 (Well, sort of 2002. We'll go with that.) S14: 16V DOHC 4 piston, E30 M3. M42/M44: 16V DOHC 4 Piston. 1991 E30 318, Z3, E36 318 Baby Six: M20: 12V SOHC 6 Piston, 325i, 325e, 528e, early E34 525i. (2.5 liter and 2.7 Liter varieties) "Baby Six" M50: 24V DOHC 6 piston. 325i, 525i, 328i, etc. S50 (us): 3.0 Liter M50 with camset and tuning. (US M3, 1995) S52 (us): 3.2 Liter M50 with camset and tuning. (US M3 95+) S50 (euro): 24V DOHC 6 piston, double VANOS, ITB, Euro M3 (3.0), Euro M3 Evo (3.2) Big Six: M30: 12 SOHC 6 Piston, Bavaria, 528i, 533i, 535i, 633i, 635csi, 728i, 733i, etc. (2.8 to 3.5 liters) BMW's ubiquitous "Big Six". S38: 24V DOHC 6 Piston: M5, M6. (3.5 here, 3.8 elsewhere-- 24V Big Six) There was also an early 745i that had a turbo Big Six. Pretty sweet, but euro only. Some made it here grey market. I miss anything? - Mike - 12-19-2006 check tech forum! chassis codes too! - CaptainHenreh - 12-19-2006 Mike Wrote:check tech forum! chassis codes too! Done. - BLINGMW - 12-19-2006 well yeah... m30 is fun and all, but the weight! And the oil leaks! However, with open pipes, the m30 is one of the sweetest sounds ever
- CaptainHenreh - 12-19-2006 BLINGMW Wrote:well yeah... m30 is fun and all, but the weight! The weight isn't nearly as bad as you think. It's 16 lbs heavier than an M50, but when you ditch your a/c shit, (which you gotta) you'll probably come out in a wash over the M50. Maybe a little more weight in the nose, but torque, torque, torque. - BLINGMW - 12-19-2006 o really? Damn, I need to get ETK running on my machine, I didn't realize the weight was that close. How can that be? It's freakin huge! In that case, m30 all the way, if, of course, you didn't want that fancy alum 2.8... |
