somebody please stop me! I probably am starting another hobby in which I will send thousands of dollars down the drain in order to obtain some fun between my legs.

I am most likely driving to richmond tomorrow to pick up a 1976 yamaha xs360 and make a little cafe racer to cruise around on and save some gas. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about these. I am worried about obtaining parts for it. I found some on ebay and other places.

oh and Rj. do you know if the honda cb360 and yamaha xs360 are interchangable? I read a rumor that they are.

If you don't take it too seriously and take your time, you'll learn alot and have fun doing it.

But yes, you should be worried about finding parts for it.

Its probably a concern as it wasnt as popular as the XS650 - but there's always something out there.

I could be wrong, but I really doubt anything is shared with the Honda 360.

Well, they do *look* similar. If I've got my old hondas right, the 350 and the 360 twins were totally different, and the 360 has more in common with my 450 than with your 350. Externally, they seem to share alot of dimensions, they've both got six gears in the box...

But the given horsepower ratings are different, and one's a yamaha and the other a honda. :-p Not to mention that alot of things in that era changed from engine to engine of the same model for a while, forget across manufacturers.

On the other hand, the 360 doesn't look *anything* like the TX twin, so maybe yamaha and honda had a joint venture on the "other" twin? They certainly came in similar displacements.

ALL the old hondas from that era were totally different.

I dont know *why* honda did this but there is very little parts bin sharing, even though they made those air cooled motors from 125cc to 750cc :dunno:

One of my coworkers has an XS360 street-tracker that he has done a lot of work to. It's a neat little bike.

i never really thought of that being the point especially when this is your first bike project... I guess, It wasn't my personal goal. I just want it to run nothing crazy and as close to stock as possible.

Most shops can order parts through parts unlimited, K+L supply, Tucker Rocky, etc. Those are the places to start for maintenance items. Plan on rebuilding the carbs, replacing jets, replacing points and condensers, changing oil and filter, replacing air filter, etc. bear in mind that points and oil filters are usually changed at 4000 mile intervals on the older bikes, so it's not a bad idea to buy them 4 or 5 at a time. Stock up on oil, just get the cheap stuff from autozone, but keep enough on hand for a couple oil changes. replace the fork oil right away, but put in 20 weight engine oil. It makes a big difference. My buddy has tried a few different oils for his front forks, and eventually settled on 80/90 gear oil. anything else didn't provide any damping.

I pulled off the gastank today and am in the process of using kreem products in it to remove the rust and clean it out. Next I am going to take apart the carbs and clean thema ll out.

got rebuild kits for the carbs? without the kits there is no point in taking apart the carbs for cleaning. Make sure you have a service manual so you can set the carbs up right upon reassembly.

Yeah,

Basically I got nothing done today. I took off the carbs.. kinda... they are stuck on the manifold gasket. and the gastank which I began to clean out. I went to the yamaha dealer today and they do not sell rebuild kits for this bike. So I have to order all the parts seperate. What parts should I get? Gaskets, that needle thing ect.
