Gas crisis thanks to Ike? - WRXtranceformed - 09-12-2008 You guys getting this up in VA? Apparently in Huntersville about an hour north from here the lines to the gas stations are like 1.5 hours long. I jumped down to SC and filled up for about $.40 higher than what it has been over the past few weeks. Ike is shutting down a lot of the Gulf oil rigs so I guess it's causing prices to jump. It's supposed to get worse over the next few days, jumping up possibly by another $1.00 / gallon. - Mike - 09-12-2008 i dunno, i haven't bought gas in two months. SUCKAS! - .RJ - 09-12-2008 Tyranny of the stupid, and of the media, bleeds major overractions everywhere. Might as well keep gas at $5/gallon if people are dumb enough to line up out into the road to buy it for no reason. - ScottyB - 09-12-2008 Lee...you should have been here right before Katrina hit. people were losing their f@$#%*& minds, it was like martial law or something. talk about how the city was going to run completely out of gas and stuff. a station across campus from me at the time was charging upwards of $6 for 93 that night, as i found in the news. i legitamately had to fill the A4 up right before it hit and had no idea people were freaking out so seriously. had to wait 1/8 mile down the street in line before i got to fill up with 93, which was the only blend left (everyone drained the tanks totally dry of regular and 89). thats why i filled up on tuesday 8) idiots. - Apoc - 09-12-2008 I haven't gotten gas in a few weeks so I'm not sure. That said, I don't really pay attention to the price of gas so I'm not sure I'd notice. It doesn't surprise me that people are lining up because people are stupid. - .RJ - 09-12-2008 I take it back. Bears are invading from the ocean!!
- rezarxt - 09-12-2008 Bitches. Hope theres some 93 left for me. The funny thing is I was going to fill up last night and I was like nah Ill just wait until friday

Bears are invading from the ocean!! thats fantastic - ViPER1313 - 09-12-2008 Never underestimate the stupidity of the general public. Nothing like some unsubstantiated fear. News: Ike might shut down some oil rigs and refineries in Texas. Oil Wholesalers: The general public is retarded - so retarded that we can make them believe there is a "shortage" of gas and charge them $6 a gallon for at least 2 weeks. Then when the "shortage" passes we can "lower" gas back to $4.50 a gallon, where it will need to stay to buffer against the next "shortage." Record profits again! News Whore Public: Some refineries might shut down? Gas shortage? NO MORE GAS@&*#^!!!! OMFG GET IN THE CAR WE HAVE TO GO GET SOME. - Evan - 09-12-2008 Just filled up last night at $3.45. over .60 lower than 1 month ago. Ill believe the $5 gas overreaction (btw, you guys are contributing) when I see it oh, adam you should read up on the economics of oil. Im no expert, but as I understand it, it has very little to do with traditional supply and demand as the demand is largely inelastic (more than most anyway) so prices have more to do with the future cost of oil..ie how much the last barrell pumped out of the ground will cost. - .RJ - 09-12-2008 Maengelito Wrote:LOL :!:
- .RJ - 09-12-2008 ViPER1313 Wrote:Record profits again! At < 10% profit margin. Record profits because of record sales. Stop buying it, and lining up into the street for $5/gallon gas, and the profits wont be so big. Fascinating thought. - NTIman - 09-12-2008 When I lived in Mooresville during Katrina, we heard the same bullshit. Everyone still had gas the whole time. - Evan - 09-12-2008 .RJ Wrote:exactly.ViPER1313 Wrote:Record profits again! The gubment takes more (...a LOT more) in taxes out of gas than the oil companies make. if you're ok with giving the government 95% of your income, and still being accused of "windfall profits", well... you're probably already voting for Obama  - HAULN-SS - 09-12-2008 gas is 3.99 in roanoke..i filled up in WV before i got here at 3.41 - balactm - 09-12-2008 i guess i'll have to fill up tomorrow. i haven't even gone near a gas station since august 8th. i've been using my gas-free-two-wheeler for transportation. - Ryan T - 09-12-2008 Filled up after work today, think I paid $3.79. I don't pay that much attention to gas prices, just slide my card and pump. - ViPER1313 - 09-13-2008 Evan Wrote:.RJ Wrote:exactly.ViPER1313 Wrote:Record profits again! <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune500/snapshots/496.html">http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/ ... s/496.html</a><!-- m --> Boo-hoo to them and the extra taxes they might have to pay. If you are gullible enough to buy into the Republican vs. Democrat taxes argument go and look up how much Bush has cut government spending to lower our taxes and help everyone out. And your right, I would much rather vote for Obama than a 72y/o war-hawk. - Ginger - 09-13-2008 ViPER1313 Wrote:<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune500/snapshots/496.html">http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/ ... s/496.html</a><!-- m --> I'm sure record demand has NOTHING to do with that. Most demanded resource in the WORLD and the people buying it are whining? Oh noes! Its t3h unfairs! |
