Xbox 360 or ps3 - DroptopS13 - 01-07-2010

Ok gang, thinking about getting back into the gaming world after a few years off, I'm on the fence about which to get ( have a wii), blu ray and free internet are plus for the ps3 and the price and game library are pluses for xbox. Input please!!

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - Ken - 01-07-2010

360 Definitely. Especially if online gaming is going to be your thing. Blu-Ray can be had for cheaper now anyway, PS3 is no longer the cheapest Blu-Ray player.

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - Sijray21 - 01-07-2010

benefits to both

blu-ray, blue tooth, free Playstation Network, and built-in modem for wi-fi are good for the PS3
online gaming service (although not free), microsoft specific games (ie Forza), and other things (other people name some) are good for the XBOX 360

i personally like the PS3 since you don't need a special adapter to hook up to the internet without wires (not sure if this has changed with newer releases of the 360), free online network, blu-ray, and blue tooth (for us that already have headsets). i do like the fact that more people (atleast here on MM) are on XBOX Live, Forza 3 for the XBOX 360, but it would be nice to have a wireless device for both gaming and blu-ray. i also have a bunch of friends on the PSN, so... i'll leave you with the unsatisfying answer - it depends...

with the prices about the same, unsure if you have a TV to take advantage of blu-ray (or want one in the future), etc. i'm in the same predicament and i'm leaning toward the PS3

+1, how does the ps3 online service compare?

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - Mike - 01-07-2010

she paid me. ps3 online service is free, but not as built out as 360.

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - Ken - 01-08-2010

For the online, it comes down to the old cliche' you get what you pay for.

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - G.Irish - 01-08-2010

I'd look at it this way:

Which console has the exclusive titles you want (or will want soon)? I don't know a long list of all the exclusives but if I were choosing in 2010 it'd be between GT5 for PS3 and Halo Reach for 360.

How much do you care about Blu-Ray?

Does browsing the internet with your console interest you (PS3)?

How much would the cost of buying a wi-fi adapter bother you? (you have to buy one for Xbox)

Would you rather have free online gameplay or a network with a lot more people?

How much does the possibility of RROD bother you?

I think as a piece of hardware, the PS3 is the clear bargain. For the gaming experience I'd go with 360, but that's because it has the games I want. If I cared about Blu-Ray I might have gone with the PS3 but I don't care about it at all.

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - JustinG - 01-08-2010

XBOX, Game library, xbox live. I've played the ps3, not a fan. Do u even have a TV capable of HD, if not blu ray is pointless. The absence of built in wifi is no big deal since I had already run a hard networl line to my living room anyway. You can find other network adapters that wil work. Linksys WGA11B for instance, can be had for cheap on amazon, bout 30 bucks. I can confirm it works with the 360.

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - D_Eclipse9916 - 01-08-2010

I was in the same position 5 months ago. Chose the XBOX and have no regrets.

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - WRXtranceformed - 01-08-2010

XBOX by a large margin, for the games available and quality online service.

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - Goodspeed - 01-08-2010

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon as another happy 360 owner. It just came down to the games, really, and with Forza/PGR, Hitman, Halo, GTA and more it was a no-brainer for me.

One thing I will say is that my mind is blown over how Sony has kept essentially the same controller since my old PS1 circa 1995. I was never a fan of them, the 360 controller however is excellent. Its remarkable how bad they feel to me after spending any length of time with a Xbox controller.

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - DroptopS13 - 01-09-2010

So I'm def starting to lean towards xbox, but one thing that scares me is rrod, anyone have any experiences or is it fairly rare these days

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - WRXtranceformed - 01-09-2010

I've had RROD twice. That's what warranties are for Smile

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - Mike - 01-09-2010

i've had 3 RROD, but none in the past year. warranty has handled it just fine... hae had to be without the system for a week or so each time, but whatever...

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - Ken - 01-09-2010

had RROD once, but warranty covered it. Plus the turnaround, at least for me, was suprisingly quick.

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - DroptopS13 - 01-09-2010

After some thinking and research, looks like by the end of jan ill have a shiny new xbox, 20 gigs should be enough harddrive wise? And any recommendation on games besides foreza and cod

Re: Xbox 360 or ps3 - JustinG - 01-09-2010

had RROD once, turn around was awesome, warranty covered it. be sure you dont get the arcade version as you have to have a HD for xbox live. but pretty sure they only sell the elite or arcade systems now.
