Our office is closed in Dulles... so far, it's only some rain and a little bit of wind. We're working from home though, not a day off. My colleagues in NYC are doing the same. The New York MTA shut down the subway system at 7 last night. DC apparently shut the Metrorail/bus system down for the first time in 10 years.

I have no idea how serious this could get.

SO happy i bought a generator a month ago, take that people who thought that was dumb. Anyway, work has made me come in, with no option to work from home, because that would be ridiculous and all for a technology company.

I'm holed up at my fiancé's house in DC since the power usually doesn't go out in DC. Not trying to sit in a house without power for several days like I did with the derecho earlier this year. I'm just glad they cancelled work today so we didn't end up with the same situation we did last year when it snowed during rush hour and it caused 8 hour traffic jams.

well, good news is I get a snowday. Bad news is they also cancelled the driver clinic I was supposed to take today. Rescheduled for a date beyond the court-mandated time I need to complete it. I guess I'm stuck doing this stupid online one...

Office / schools closed so we are all at home. Except oldest daughter who works at a bank in Middleburg, hopefully they will close early before it gets too bad for the drive home. I'll be heading out this afternoon...our dog is getting his leg amputated today and they usually keep them overnight but they want me to take him the emergency place for the overnight that it is manned 24/7.

Gutters needed cleaning but there are still too many leaves and after 10 minutes of windy conditions it would have been like I did nothing anyway. We have a few tall trees that threaten the house so we'll be leaving a few bedrooms empty on that side. My neighbor and I have a couple of big leaners that don't threaten the houses I'll be keeping an eye on, especially as the ground gets soaked and the wind continues into Tuesday evening. I generally don't worry about wind or rain, but prolonged both worries me.

I didn't bother blowing the leaves off the driveway and roof over the weekend. :dunno: Hopefully they will find their way to the neighbor's yard by themselves today.

I don't have much food, but plenty of beer. Jmu is closed. It looks wet outside but I don't see anything to crazy yet. I will be venturing out into the storm to make an all important stop at ups. Damn you Bimmer World and your need for decals for your stupid widebody e46.

Gubment is closed so I get a forced day off without pay. Id rather work from home as long as the power is up, oh well.
With an infant I cant take risks, and the power outage in the summer with a 2 week old was a nightmare. So I bought the last generator at Home Depot on thursday ($600..ugh) and Ive been prepping all weekend. Barring the roof flying off or a tree falling on the house I should be in good shape, God willing.

My rents and hometown (northern NJ) is preparing to get raped- NYC evacuated lower mahattan (over half stayed....welcome to NY) NYSE closed, subways closed, NJ and mass transit closed- I wish I was home!

Swapped some cars around before the rain and wind got too crazy this morning. E36 is in the garage now, and Miata is in the driveway under a fitted cover.

Given that the E36 may be up for sale at some point, and it's my DD, with liability-only on it, I figured the fewer trees in the backseat, the better. Miata is short enough that it's out of harm's way, even in the driveway.

My workplace closed today. I still went in because I like working when no one is there. Traffic was easy this morning...hopefully stays that way. I just got back from vacation for a week so I would have been bored as shit staying home today since all my chores were pretty much done
