Fender Roller/Rolling

Does any have a fender roller? Or knows of a good place to get fenders rolled? Or where I can even rent a fender roller?

It would be nice to be near Harrisonburg but it doesn't have to be. Might be getting new wheels and tires that's why I'm asking

You can rent one on Ebay for about $60, usually $30 to rent it and $30 to ship it back. You'll want one that comes with a heat gun so you don't crack your paint, and I'd wait until it's at least 70* out, or do it in a heated garage, so you're not trying to keep a fender warm in 25* weather.

In college I did it with a Louisville slugger, and it actually worked pretty damn well. But you might care more than I did, given your car is newish and probably still has five-figure mileage on it.

We have a heat gun I just wanted to know if anyone in the club owned one I could borrow if not I'd find someone to do it or possibly rent one. And if anyone has knowledge on the subject that would be great too. I've watched some videos but that's for sure not going to be enough

I'm all for wide tires and not trying to be an asshole. But do you really need 245+ on a stock Mazda 3? Why not just get 8s, some 235s and skip rolling the fenders.

If you just want the look then carry on.

I feel like you're more than likely going to need to pull the front fenders to fit 9s to be able to turn. What's the stock wheel size?

Maybe not pull, these cars seem to have beefy fenders. Personally I would go with a 17 though. You'll be able to go lower on a 17 if you ever want to. Stepping up to 18s is big $$ too.

Honestly, is it excessive? Probably not. I'm going to be doing more auto-x, mountains runs, and tracking the car. So I believe the amount of tire will be needed.

I also am getting a steal on some wheels and tires. You will see if I can pick them up tomorrow. Not just the only reason I want the 9s because I do like that wide look and I can always move up in tire size. They are 17x9 +40 with a 245/40/17.

Lastly, I've been in contact with a forum member on a Mazda3 forums I'm on. He is a big canyon runner over in Cali. He runs right now. 18x9.5 RPF1s +35 front and +45 rear on a 255. So with the help of him and a little math we figure that the wheel/tire combo will barely clear the front suspension. Easily clear the rear suspension. The fronts with camber being moved to -2.2 or so should fit with little to know fender roll in the front as our fronts for some reason have a lot more room than our rears. With the same amount of camber in the rear I will need as good as a roll as I can get to fit them.

I know this will take some work but will be well worth it in the end. This car moves very well with 205s at 600 treadwear rating on 17s. So this extra grip will push me to a lot more fun. I can push the car past the grip of the tires right now and it sucks.

Mods: Intake, Coilovers (front camber plates), adjustable rear camber arms, big rear sway bar, magnaflow muffler (thanks Kaan) and some other things that dont matter for performance. Will be getting a 4-1 header soon as well.

A 245 is far more supported with a 9 then an 8. If you are going to do it....do it right :wink:

Truth. I'm running 245's on an 8.5" wheel on the M3. I've also got 245's stuffed on the rear 7.5" wheels of the 128 right now and it looks goofy as all hell and probably isn't the best idea.

I agree with others in saying that it's a shitton of tire for how much power you're making... but it sounds like you've done your research, so in that case, go for it. :thumbup:

Prepare for the car to be a hell of a lot more "nervous" on the highway with those huge wheels and that camber. I don't know if it will affect FWD as badly, but similar mods on the M3 caused it to "tramline" like crazy. It'll follow the grooves in the road and make it feel twitchy and unsettled. It used to do it pretty badly on my 17x9s, wasn't as bad on my 8.5s, but it picked up the habit again when i painted 245/35s onto them and swapped top hats for MAXIMUM CAMBER.

Going up that much in width is probably going to make your turn it feel a lot slower too. A lot of Miata autocross guys won't run over a 195 because it starts to soften the turn in, which I really did notice when I had 205s on mine. I'd think a good quality 225 tire on a 7.5 or 8 would give you plenty of grip for any power you're going to get out of that thing, unless you're planning on turboing it or something.

Not trying to talk you out of it, just throwing my $0.02 into the pile.

To fix some of the tramlining, get rid of any toe out you have in the front, and do a smidge of toe in in the rear.

I think that's how he's got me set up now, zero'd out in the front with .2 total rear toe in, -1.9 rear camber and whatever the swapped top hats gives you up front, -3+. I didn't have him give me the sheet though, so I'm not 100% sure. He'll double check it and tweak it for free, so I might go make sure when the weather warms up again.
