This is getting its own topic after someone made a post in one of my threads that was 100% offensive and entirely out of line.

I understand that this is a club forum and that many of us are very tight-knit. I also understand that the internet at large is not a place where people are to be taken seriously 100% of the time. That said, there are some depths of language and humor that are just not acceptable to tread, and this is one of them.

This morning's post was not the first involving a gay slur but it will be the last. I'm not the only gay MMer, there are others who are out and still more who are not out yet but have confided in a select few of us.

Comments and memes like what was posted this morning have also been posted in the past, by more than one person. They do nothing to help promote this club as a welcoming environment for all interested in cars/motorsports. I've stuck to PM in the past, but the "apology" I received this morning began with "lol" and ended with a weak excuse of "being sick" as to why the individual's word choice was deliberately poor.

I don't know about others, but when I'm sick I don't suddenly start spouting off racist comments, and this is truly no different.

Looking forward, those forum members who choose to post such comments will receive a no-questions-asked, one-week vacation from the forum.

It's 2016; the humor and language that you may have found amusing at the age of 12 should be left there, where it belongs.

Listen up: I'm a grown up, I can admit when I'm wrong. I posted something in poor taste. And after I apologized to Jake, sincerely, and owned what I did, acknowledging his right to be angry with me and asking for grace and forgiveness, he said he accepted said apology and said to "move on".

Then he decided to post this.

Rex is not and has not been the only offender here. This is a case where the actions of a few mean it ought to be addressed by the whole.

To keep in mind, those who have made posts like I referenced have all been apologetic over forms of PM. This is not an "I'm mad because you hurt my feelings" thread. It's a reminder to please think more before you post.

To be fair, I've been trying to clean up my language in that respect too. That and using "retard". I say it without thinking about it, but I certainly don't want my kid repeating it. So thanks for the reminder Jake!

Disagree. There have been tons of other racist or offensive jokes/photos/memes etc that have been posted and none have illicited such a knee-jerk "crack-down". Just because you are one mod does not mean you have the right to go all czar.

Deleting the post and reminding the person that offended you is well within your rights. If all the moderators agree on a "one week no questions asked ban", then by all means go through with it.

I'm going to have to agree with this. Besides a public apology, I'm not sure what else is warranted. You can ask to have someone banned, but cannot ban someone yourself for something you think is offensive. We have handled this numerous times in the past with a PM and an explanation of how "whatever was said/done" was offensive.

That said, if the friendly PM reminder was extended and didn't work, I'd hope there would be support from the other mods in offering someone a temporary vacation.

I completely agree, I'm a pretty loose lipped person and even I'm not comfortable using racial or homophobic slurs. That said, it is a part of the popular lexicon and educating someone on why it shouldn't be said is better than banning or bashing them. Otherwise, you just help foster the hard feelings.

Imo, as long as it isn't directed towards anyone and purposely trying to hurt someone it's a little different then a light hearted jokes I've heard in person made by people that seem like they shouldn't bother anyone. We all bust each others balls from time to time but intent and a joke in poor taste are a little different than some other things I've seen...

If you don't like something someone said, PM a mod. None of us have time to police every post without a notification of said offensive post.
