'89 240sx

I found a '89 240sx down here around my home town for $600 OBO, says good engine and good body, but needs transmission work (AT). I would like to hear what you guys think...I might give the guy a call.

How much would it cost to swap a manual in and bascially get it ready for HPDE's?

Thanks guys.

Talk to Dave - he's done exactly that, tranny-swap and all.

A tranny swap can be done super cheap. You can pick up a 5-speed tranny for those cars for like...$300-400 I believe. Swap isn't bad from what I've heard.

I'd say you can get the whole shebang done for ~$500
I'll have a spare manual tranny soon, so I'd be happy to offload that on ya. Personally, I'd grab that and run with it. I paid $800 for my shell and it was in great shape (AT also needed work, but F that :-) ).
Justin, hit me up if you want more details. It was a pretty easy swap and considering I've pulled the tranny off two 240s already, I think we could do it pretty quick once you got the parts together.

twin cam and single cam trannies are different.

But buy a single cam. Much easier to work on, much easier to turbocharge.

600 dollars seems reasonable assuming that it's not a pile of shit.

I say do it. The power gain of the twin cam isn't worth the additional complexity.

Dave, quit trying to sell this poor boy parts that don't work. You can't put a twin cam head on a single cam block without enormous difficulty.

If you want to switch to twin cam and manual transmission in one swoop, then I would get a twin cam parts car, or just do an SR swap. That's probably the best scenario. Get a used auto tranny, drive the car until you can afford the 2500 for an SR clip, and then swap that in. Boom! You get manual transmission, and a turbocharger. Even the CA18DET is pretty damned cool, and alot cheaper.

All this is academic until you purchase the car though.

eh, just run the single cam into the ground anyways. Back to the point, you need to make the purchase and I'll help you make it a manual :-)

Have a feeling I effed up by not calling on this car, but I had some problems with my truck that took precedent...damn power steering pump(gonna be replacing that before too much longer). Next time i go home i will see if it is still in the trading post...but if it is gone i will just continue my search.

Hopefully i can find a decent one and purchase it to make it my traq wh0r...cause i really need a hit off the GFCP Big Grin
