It probably won't work for you.
What, no Verizon? Chalk one up for Cingular.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
i would probably break it instantly, anyone else put their phones in their lap then get out the car....yea not good for cellphones.

Probably not, but I'll buy one anyways. I wonder when they're hitting stores?

I think it's incredible. I think the price is really steep. Take into account unlimited data usage plans for cingular are starting at like $85/mo. Also, think about battery life. Granted, the current video ipod is running off a HD and this is off of flash, I'm interested to see how much life they can eek out of it if you're say... watching a movie on a plane.
Overall, it's a WICKED product. Anything that runs all that crap so nicely deserves a premium price tag. Google maps and wifi sealed it for me. I don't know if I'd need a data plan.
Sadly, I'm not signing up for any contract so I'd hate to see the prices sans 2yr agreement...
i actually came on here to post a thread about it - i think this is where the technology was heading and i'm not really surprised that Apple came up with the idea teaming up with Google and Yahoo. This thing will become the newest craze.
i would like one eventually when it comes out.

Any idea what the prices are going to be like? I couldnt find anything.
I'm hoping its no more than what I paid for my 30gb iPod.

Do you really think you'll spend $500 on a phone/ipod and get stuck with a 2yr agreement? I mean, don't get me wrong. It's a great piece of technology.... but man, you can buy a laptop for that price. It'd been a deal if you could get it for $500 w/o a plan and 350 with a plan.
Oh well, i'm just bitching because I won't be able to afford one.
EDIT: $499 for a 4GB and 599 for an 8GB. Both require 2yr agreements with cingular.

another thing i'm concerned about is if this thing will NOT have a changable battery like their ipods....i would NOT want to buy another phone b/c i couldn't change the battery and it kept dying so quickly.

good god, did you even read the images or did you just look at the pretty colors and get a chubby?
Like I said...
For 599, damn, uh, no thanks. Wait, AND I have to sign a two year contract?
Really, I'm good. I definitely have no throbbing desire for this "amazing revolutionary device".

But if it were a pair of non-running 1.3L Opel GT's for $599 you'd have all sorts of throbbing desires in your pants...

The idea behind the pricing is you need to get a contract no matter what now to sign up for any service. Also, it's an ipod nano which is 250 or whatnot + it's a bangerang smart phone so that should account for another 250. I think it is what it is. It's the latest and greatest piece of technology. It's not at a huge premium, but it's definitely not discounted. It's for people who want a smart phone... and want an ipod. It's definitely not going to be the new razr.
So.... another side question... who else (besides me) bought and sold stock around MWSF :-) ?

For a pair?
Maybe if they ran.

Well, a lot of people are locked into contracts as it is - its going to be hard to get them to drop their current service just to get in on the cool new things, especially at that price. Maybe they will offer current customers a discount
That price is steep. I'm gonna think about it..... will probably impulse buy it anyways I never buy any of the new cool toys when they come out - staying well behind the techonology curve has its benefits - but I really like this one.
