I've got a lot of goals in life and figured a public list would be much more motivation to get them done. Ted Leonsis has one (his is kinda retarded insane, though), Apoc has one, and I wanted one. I returned this weekend to a newspaper article on my side of the bed about this new site put together by some local guys... elifelist.com. Check it out, make a list...

#18 will prevent 1/2 of the others from happening unless you do #3 on the done list again and increase it by a factory of 100 or more .

I'm not a fan of the site but as I said before, I don't feel the need to have an entirely different site to maintain a list. I still maintain that you copied my list... or I had some awesome ideas.

I took a welding class because I had the same goal, but I never use it. It was fun though

tell me when you want to do a demolition derby, I'd like to join you on that one. And you don't have to add the tag line "and live"... from what I understand no-one has ever died, or even been seriously injured in one. It's a darn safe hobby!

yeah, but the stigma amongst the common folk is that it's crazy dangerous i'd be surprised if anyone exceeds a few miles per hour in them.

I've been thinking about picking up a welder (and mini-lathe/mill) for a while... probably within the next year or so. I think it would be really nice to be able to fab your own stuff up.

true, but as expensive as a good welding rig is, it would take a LOT of those projects for it to pay for itself.

this is why Kaan needs to hurry up and buy a nice MIG setup :p

Do you have a welder? If not then you don't know how useful they are. Once you own one you will find all sorts of things to melt together. Your need for bolts basically drops to nil, but your need for welding wire and cutoff wheels doubles haha.

Yes... but it's extremely hard and requires special gas, IIRC.

Yup. Like said you need a different gas, probably like 90-100%% argon but you can MIG weld w/ that as well, it just cost more. For steel you usually run like 70/30 or 75/25 argon/co2 If you plan to do a lot of Alum welding and steel welding it's better off to just get 2 tanks, maybe a small one for argon only and a bigger one for a mix.

Also to MIG weld alum you need a spool gun, so you can run the alum filler right off the gun, you can push alum though a 10' MIG gun. It's not super expensive, just have to buy a MIG capable of using a Spool gun, and then buy the spool gun ~$200. TIG welding would produce better alum welds though...

different gas and wire... not too big of a deal to be honest. you just have to learn to turn your shit down and reset your machine alot if you are using a mig.

and i personally think knowing how to weld is pretty useful. it was useful enough at the track that cobetto bought a set up to bring in the nasa trailer the next time i am needed to weld at the track again.

and i personally want a mig and tig set up for the garage. i just need to figure out how to pay for it

Never seen one of those. Alum filler wires is VERY light and soft. I'd never attempt to push it though a cable. The spool gun is a better idea. Esp for doing a little big of welding here/there on a work bench.

Miller's got some pretty banging combo sets now. I used one at the welding class I took last year. like 200amp for $1,500 Includes a tig torch and MIG gun. Pretty sweet.
