Official: 2010 Ford Taurus SHO with a 365hp twin turbo V6 and AWD.
That looks really cool, actually.
I am glad to see these four doors and hatches with tons of sack. We're living in the New Sixties of Horsepower and we don't even know it.
1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442
Base price of $38 grand oof! That engine is going to be awesome though, talk about mod potential! It sounds like they've got some pretty neat features that can be optioned into the car, but I bet it would get that Taurus north of $45k.. which buys a LOT of other cars that aren't Fords...

I've seen the test mules and spy shots for months now, so no big surprises here. I do think it's cool, but sadly I think it will flop.
Exterior: Meh, maybe it will grow on me. It's no G8 or Challenger though. You could argue that was the charm of the original (sleeper status) although I think Ford should have been more aggressive (different grill, no chrome, etc..)
Interior: Love it, think it looks bad ass. The seats should have bigger bolsters.
Engine: Good power, but not exceptional, and the internals are not forged. The Yamaha motor is incredibly stout and over-engineered (forged internals, 7300rpm redline limited by accessory speed, baffled oil pan, dual length intake runners, solid lifters.) Ecoboost - not so much. I want to see how much power the it can actually make.
I think it will sell o.k... but not great, although if it starts to win comparisons and reviewer praise it might sell better and help make the base Taurus a serious choice on buyers lists again. I might pick one up in a couple years when the value on them tanks.

I think some of us do...I've been rejoicing in the recent comeback of factory performance cars that are done well, and more importantly done smart. The big 3's products are soaring to new heights. I'm glad the SUV is going the way of the dodo bird and that the truck market has gotten slimmer and smarter (no more King Ranch Laredo High Country suburban cowboy stuff).
This SHO is almost mouth watering, and I'm glad they avoided superfluous aesthetic "enhancements" like fake scoops and big badging. I think its biggest competitor will be 3 to 4 year old SRT8's in the 20k range; it'd be tough to pass up one of those for an American sports sedan. New they are going for ~46k, so turn the boost up a bit on this and it would be a relative bargain.
wonder if i can shoe horn one of those bitches into the focus

yeah haven't you heard, the big three are starting to price their vehicles in the price range of their German Luxury counterparts to try and gain back a foothold in the market.

How's your search for a Cherokee going?
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

When you compare it to the BMW 550i (they are about the same size and make the same amount of power) it is 22k cheaper. Will it handle / ride as well or have as nice of an interior - no. Is it as good looking as the BMW - no. Is the BMW worth 22k more (or more considering the rebates that are usually associated with American cars) - debatable.

comparing it to a 550 is pretty silly.
isnt it more 3 series sized anyway?
i would hope so, the 5 series is the size of a towncar now

article Wrote:Backing up the potent powerplant is a torque-sensing all-wheel-drive system mated to Ford's 6F55 six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. The tranny is augmented by a manual mode that can be controlled either by the console shifter or paddle shifters, and will also rev match downshifts and hold gears even when the tach is bouncing off the engine's redline.
wtf man, is everyone just turning to auto with a 'manual' mode now?
jeebus...
i agree with adam and like the interior of this car alot (minus the lack of true manual tranny), but the $38k price tag is ridiculous.

Taurus is 10 inches longer than a 2009 5-series, wheelbase is within an inch.

I do like the interior, minus the steering wheel, it looks like one out of a 10 year old BMW with more buttons
I like the looks of the car from the front/side, the back might need to grow on me. The squintier headlights remind me of those Holdens or maybe its Ford counterpart (Falcon?) from Australia.
The article says its based on the MKS which is acutally really close in size to the 5 series, if not a tiny bit bigger so maybe a 550i isn't such a wild comparison.
I found this cheap SHO in baltimore. It was like a 87 (or something like that) with like 50k miles. 5spd. They were asking $1500 for it. I was thinking about buying it for my dd next year but I need to sell my mustang first. It looked to be in great shape. And Im sure I could talk them down a few hundred dollars.

Ford's new Q-ship, I like it.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
