It's not traditional "indian food". They have very little stinky curry type dishes... Mainly freshly grilled fish, oven cooked chicken, and shit like that. A nice indian restaurant is not what you get at an indian buffet Smile

And their drinks... oh man... Their bar guy is a genius. They have a bunch of odd flavors mixed together that work amazingly. A spicy cocktail? Fuck yeah.

This aint a first date, but I still don't think Indian food is classy enough for a birthday dinner unless she was totally into it, which I don't think so.

That was a poor choice of words. Indian food is not "unclassy". Classy has to do with how the restaurant is run and how it is decorated.

I know what you mean, you're right..I like indian food, but most places i have been to are more like quick lunch places than nice sit down dinner places

If you like Indian food why wouldn't you go to nice Indian restaurants?

I actually hit up a newer Indian spot in Old Town Alexandria this past weekend called Raw Silk. Good food and nice interior though the man and woman working there did not know how to serve wine.

To be fair I'm biased because I hate indian food, but that's a little out there for a first date regardless imo.

I'm not sure where that stigma comes from as the yellow curry powder we all know is purely a Western invention.

I spent a week in India and didn't have what we would call curry once.

Apparently you don't have any Indian friends here? I built homes for a lot of native Indian people and every time I went into their homes they all smelled like grease and strong curry. That's not a racist statement or a gross generalization, it's the simple truth.

Most people who live in India are poor as fuck anyway and probably don't eat anything at all like what anyone here in the states eats.

well... this isn't... it's one of the nicer restaurants in the city. not all burgers are made at mcdonalds.

I know this. And maybe I have never had "really good" indian food, but the indian food I have gotten at those lunch "mcdonalds" type places is usually really good..so is it really going to be that much better if I go somewhere like where you're talking about? I realize you said that had some different stuff, but lentils and butter masala are like my favorite things and are awesome on a 10$ buffet I go to. I guess that's all I was getting at earlier.

I love indian food..I guess all I am getting at is I have never had butter masala better than the 6$ butter masala I get at Masala Wok for lunch. Ever.

I concede this may be the case however: If this is in fact true then there's a whole shitload of *bad* Indian food.

And, frankly, if I have to have "good" anything for it to be in the least palatable, I ain't interested. 5 dollars at 5 guys gets me a pretty good burger, while 12 dollars at (for example because I was there last night) Matchbox gets me a pretty fucking good burger.

But you know, I don't need the 12 dollar burger to appreciate the 5 dollar one.
